Control Palette: - The PageMaker Control Palette displays the settings and properties of selected text, object or paragraph. It also enables you to adjust these settings and properties so as to manipulate your text and images.

How to Display the Control Palette: -

v Click on the Window menu and then select Show Control Palette from the drop-down box.

To stop displaying the control palette

v Click on the Window menu and then select Hide Control Palette from the drop-down box.

There are two modes in control palette: -


v Character Mode

vParagraph Mode


Control Palette in Character Mode: -Use this mode to change character attributes. When you select the text tool, the Control Palette will be displayed in character mode. It displays and lets you adjust the properties of one or more characters in your text, including fonts, type size, type style, leading, Kerning, tracking and width of your text.

 

v Font Face: - It is used to change the writing style.

v Font Size: -It is use to increase or decrease the font size.

v Expert tracking: - This option allows you to apply size, dependent letter spacing over a range of text instead of adjusting the spacing between pairs of letters by using the sub command like loose, very loose, tight, normal etc.

v Normal (Ctrl +Shift + Space): - To change the font style into normal.

v Bold (Ctrl + Shift + B): - This button is used to change the normal font into bold (blackness).

v Italic (Ctrl + Shift + I): - This option is used to change the normal text into italic.

v Reverse (Ctrl +Shift+ V): - This button is used to change the font in to white color.

v Strikethrough (Ctrl + Shift + /): - This tool is used to draw a horizontal line through the middle of the selected text.

v Small caps: - This option is used to change to selected font caps as small, capital and little grater capital.

v Superscript / Subscript: - This button is used to change the normal text in to supper and sub script (the text appear little upper then normal text is called supper script and the text which appear little below the normal text is called sub script).

v Leading button: - This button is used to change the text leading (leading is the vertical space between two lines)

Ø Select the text line which leading you want to change.

Ø Click over the leading increase or decrease button, as you need.

v Horizontal Scale: - This option is used to change the character width size, as you need.

Ø Select the text which width you want to change.

Ø Choose the width size in present, as you need.

v Baseline shift option: - This button is used to move the selected text little below or above the normal line or specify the vertical position of text relative to the baseline.

Ø Select the text and click over the up and down baseline button.


Control Palette in Paragraph Mode: - Use this mode to display and change the attributes of one or more selected paragraphs. You can adjust attributes such as displays paragraph styles, indentation, alignment, paragraph spacing and alignment as well as grid alignment and grid spacing.

v Align Left (Ctrl + Shift + L): - Change the text aligns text left edge of the text evenly. The left alignment text is commonly used in personalized letter informal news and body text in many books.

v Align center (Ctrl + Shift + C):  - This alignment is used to position the text or paragraph in the center of the page or between the left and right edge of the page. This alignment is basically used to heading for newsletter and brochure and heading of book. 

v Align Right (Ctrl + Shift + R): -  This alignment is used to position the text or paragraph on the right edge of the page it is basically used for to write date and time and so on.

v Justify (Ctrl + Shift + J) /Force justify (Ctrl + Shift + F): - This alignment is used to justify (adjust the vertical text of both side of the paragraph) the paragraph edge.
